Maternity Unit - Southern General Hospital, Glasgow : window film and modular wall work
The commission is intended to enhance an existing entrance which now serves as the main access to a new neo-natal unit.
The artwork was developed from Ayrshire whitework designs, also known as muslin flowering. Mrs. Jamieson, the wife of a Glasgow cotton merchant, devised the technique which preceded lace; fine designs were hand embroidered by local outworkers known as ‘flowerers’. Exquisite examples of baby’s caps and christening gowns remain.
All elements are developed from a single circle - representing the unbroken circle of parental love.
